Who this policy is for
The Services are intended for users 18 years of age or older. They are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Information we collect
Information you provide to create and use an account
- Account details: your email address and display name. Passwords are handled by our own (self-hosted) authentication system; we do not store your password in readable form.
- Billing information: if you subscribe to a paid (Pro) plan, our payments processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment card details. We do not receive or store full card numbers; we store a customer identifier and your subscription status and renewal date.
Information about your property and designs
- Location information: to place your design on a map and provide climate and hardiness guidance, we collect the approximate location of your property — for example, coordinates you select and/or a ZIP code you enter — and we retrieve satellite imagery of that location from our mapping provider (Mapbox).
- Design content: the landscape designs you create, including project names, property boundaries, canvas dimensions, and the plants, hardscapes, turf areas, and camera views you place.
Photos you upload
- If you upload plant photos, we collect the image and, to document your consent and support moderation, we log the date and time, your IP address, your browser/device (user-agent) string, and a cryptographic hash of the consent language you agreed to. We remove embedded metadata (such as EXIF/GPS data) from images during processing. See Section 5 for how uploaded photos are used and published.
AI render inputs and outputs
- When you generate an AI visualization, we send your design/scene data — but not your property location or satellite imagery — to our AI provider to produce the render, and we store the resulting image in your account. See Section 4.
Communications and support
- Emails you send us, and content related to community moderation — for example, if you report another user’s uploaded photo, or if your content is reported.
Technical information
- We and our hosting/security providers automatically collect limited technical information such as IP address, log data, and usage information (for example, render counts used to enforce plan limits), for security, reliability, and to operate the Services.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide, maintain, and improve the Services (create and store designs, generate PDFs and AI renders, display maps and plant data);
- create and authenticate your account and keep it secure;
- process subscriptions and payments;
- communicate with you about your account, transactions, and support requests, and — where you have not opted out — to send newsletters and product updates (see Section 8);
- review and moderate uploaded content, respond to community reports, and enforce our terms (including suspending accounts that repeatedly violate them);
- protect the security and integrity of the Services and prevent misuse; and
- comply with legal obligations.
AI-generated renders
When you request a photorealistic render of a design, your design/scene data is transmitted to third-party AI image-generation providers to generate the image. We do not send your property location or satellite imagery to these providers — only the abstract design (such as plant and hardscape placements). The generated image is stored in your account and shown back to you; free-plan renders include a visible Plantyd watermark.
Data you submit for rendering is processed by these third-party AI providers under their own terms and privacy policies, which govern how they may use it. We do not control their independent data practices and cannot guarantee that submitted content is not retained or used to improve their models. Please avoid including sensitive personal information in designs you render.
Photos you upload and the public plant library
Photos you upload to Plantyd’s shared plant library are published publicly within the Services under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC-BY-4.0) license, attributed to your display name. This means other users can view and reuse those photos under that license, with credit to your display name as it appeared at upload. Please do not upload photos you are not willing to share this way, and do not upload images of identifiable people without their permission. We review uploads and act on community reports; accounts with repeated upheld reports may be suspended.
Your choices and rights
- Access, correct, and delete: you can edit your account and design content in the app, and you can delete your account within the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your account and design data; certain records we are required or permitted to keep — such as immutable consent logs for photo uploads and routine encrypted backups — persist for a limited period before being overwritten. You may also make access, correction, or deletion requests by emailing privacy@plantyd.com, and we will verify and respond as required by applicable law.
- Marketing communications: you can opt out of newsletters and marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in those emails or by contacting us. We will still send transactional messages (for example, account, security, and billing notices).
- State privacy rights: depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable US state privacy laws (such as the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights). We honor these requests for our users regardless of state; contact us at the address above to make one.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, and afterward only as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and maintain security. Consent-event logs for uploaded photos are retained as immutable records.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit, use of a PCI-compliant payment processor for card data, removal of embedded metadata from uploaded images, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Where your information is processed
Plantyd is operated from, and stores and processes personal information in, the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
